The gala dinner in London on the evening of Saturday, 25 September went off well, considering all the obstacles that it faced. There were massive traffic jams throughout London that day and even public transport seemed to be at a standstill, with tube lines and many stations closed. Most of the guests arrived about an hour late. Then, in the middle of the cooking, there was a gas leak in the building - so they had to turn the gas off for a while. But, as we are yogis and quite flexible, things worked out. We started at 8.30pm (instead of the projected 7pm) and had the concert first, courtesy of the Islington Quartet. They sang selections from Bach corals and variations on Schubert.
By the time the concert had finished, the gas came back on. The singers were able to jjoin the rest of the group in a wonderful Indian feast - eaten by hand, sitting on the ground, from authentic Indian leaf plates. A good time was enjoyed by all. Swami Saradananda closed the evening with a talk on the good work being done by the Ganga Prem Hospice in Rishikesh. Several people took donation boxes and calendars - and promised to help raise donations.
Special thanks to:
- Yamuna and Bharata for the donation of the use of their beautiful "Light Yoga Space"
- Bharata and April for cooking a great Indian feast - complete with chocolate cake
- Max and the Islington quartet for beautiful renditions of Bach chorals and variations on Schubert
