Yoga for High Blood Pressure

When bp is 140/100 what yoga can one practise to lower the high blood pressure? plz advise One of our Facebook friends asked this question and received the following replies. Standing Asanas : Uttanasana and Adhomukha Svanasana - When these two poses are practiced, the blood flows more freely into the aortic arch and the carotid sinuses. These are forward bending standing asanas. Supine Poses : Supta Baddhakonasana and Supta Padangusthasana - These asanas allow abdominal region to spread and relax. This relaxation is not only beneficial to the entire organic body, but is also soothing on the nerves. Sitting asanas : Baddhakonasana, Virasana and Upavista Konasana - these poses owing to their erect position, soften the diaphragm and remove tension from the ribs and the muscles. Inversions : Halasana, Setubandha Sarvangasana and Viparita Karani - rejuvenates the nerves. Svanasana and pranayama helps to control the automatic nervous system. As you withdraw your mind and senses of perception, blood pressure is controlled. Be sure to get advice from a trained teacher. H Lucy: remember to hold out the breath in every breathing exercise rather than holding in breath. Holding in can aggravate high bp. Holding out until the time it is absolutely necessary to take a breath is beneficial to all and is the only time in... life that your lungs can go loose and relax. Hold out for as long as possible allowing the exhaled breath to diffuse away and you get more clean oxygen in on your next in breath instead of taking back in what you exhaled out.
