Murugan - Skanda - Karthikeya - Subrahmanya

Murugan is one of the sons of Shiva and Parvati. Ganesha is the elder son, Murugan the younger one. Murugan is usually painted as a boy or adolescent - symbol of youthful enthusiasm.He has a Vel (spear) - symbol of one-pointed concentration. He has a peacock (Mayura) as his sacred animal - symbol of beauty. Murugan has many names: Subrahmanya (the good of Brahman), Shanmuga (with 6 faces), Karthikeya (from the month in which he was born), Sharavanabhava (with the protective mood), Skanda, Swamy and more. Worship of Murugan bestows courage and strength.
