Sivananda Buried Yoga

What an amazing contemporary book to read. In some ways it blows apart every pre-conception I had about yoga, the different styles, traditions, and practices. In other ways it now all makes perfect sense, pieces of the jig-saw all coming together in the one defining purpose.

I Am A Woman.

When you cannot stand something, stand. When you cannot give something, give.
When negativity takes over you, be positive. When you feel there is no hope, be a hope. That is what God is.

Safai in Praise of Pinwheels (Exhibition Manifesto)

The wise man sitting on the cushion made of hay stroked his white beard and smiled. The youngster had asked the same question, however could not have any answer some months ago. Wrestling with the question on his mind for days and nights, the young disciple had attempted once more to have the answer he had been seeking after, at last:

"Master, will you not show even a tiniest example about the secrets of transcendence and perfection?"

Sensing his disciples decisiveness,… Continue

Poem: The Buddha's Whisper

Listen carefully.

If you have held a child in your lap,

tenderly, warmly, feeling yourself flow

into your child, feeling yourself melt

into your child,

that is how you, too, are being held, always.

Your child also holds another child,

a future child who is eternally present,

in his or her lap.

And that child holds a being,

living, evolving, eternally present,

in his or her lap.

And what holds you in its lap

is being held by…

It is important that each individual becomes self introspective and tries to understand the purpose of life. We have to get rid of the consequences of our actions if one has to transcend the cycle of Samsara.

Saiva Siddhanta points out that every act (good or bad) of an individual is recorded and the consequences (joy… Continue

Holi, a brief explanation

This taken from Sivananda excerp on Holi

Being an agricultural country, India's two big festivals come during the harvest time when the barns and granaries of our farmers are full and they have reason to enjoy the fruits of their hard labour. The harvest season is a festive season all over the… Continue

The Abandoned Dog -Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja

Viareggio, Italy: April 13, 1999

Tridandisvami Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja

[This is the first publication of the transcription below. Although it is five years old, it is timely. As Srila Narayana Maharaja told the story herein, he was unsuccessfully trying to hold back his tears. In order to wipe his eyes as he was reaching the story’s end, he opened his arms to take hold of his upper sannyasa cloth and slip it under his eyeglasses. He was wearing a very thin… Continue
