Generally, you must have been told that the BEST TIME FOR PRACTISING THE PRAANNAAYAMA [BREATHING] IS THE MORNING…! YOU MUST HAVE BEEN GIVEN A LOT MANY REASONS FOR IT RANGING FROM IT BEING A TIME WHEN IT IS ALL QUEIT EVERYWHERE TO LOGIC OF IT BEING THE HEAVENLY OR BRHMAMUHURAT [SACRED TIME], etc…! BUT, THIS IS NOT AT ALL THAT SIMPLE…:-)
THE BEST TIME FOR PRACTISING THE PRAANNAAYAMA [BREATHING] HAPPENS TO BE THE TIME WHEN YOU HAVE PASSSED OUT THE WASTE PRODUCTS SUCH AS THE STOOL AND URINE FROM YOUR BODY AND THUS MADE YOUR INTESTINES CLEAN AND FLEXIBLE…! THEN, IT DOESN’T MATTER MUCH WHETHER IT’S MORNING, AFTERNOON OR EVENING, ETC…!
The importance of an empty stomach was made known well through an Akbar-Birbal joke. The folk lore has it that Birbal, the witty courtier was once asked by his master Akbar, the Mughal Monarch as to which was the BEST DAY. It is said Akbar was expecting Birbal to say Id, since Akbar followed Islam. On the other hand, the other jealous courtiers were expecting Birbal to invite the monarch’s wrath by proclaiming Diwali or Holi to be the festival, as Birbal happened to be a follower of the Hinduism.
Birbal, the witty, replied that ANY DAY WHEN BIRBAL WAS ABLE TO PASS OUT THE STOOL AND HAD AN EMPTY STOMACH WAS THE BEST DAY…!
You always must practise the Yoga only on an empty stomach. Not of much use doing Praannaayama in the morning if you don’t have an empty clean stomach. The presence of the waste material, especially the solid one, in the intestines may restrict body movements and cause toxicity in the body besides problems like acute headache, etc. This however doesn’t contradict the famous yoga advice to drink some butter-milk before doing the yoga because that does not cause any restrictions on body movement. Also, the butter-milk provides oiling of some sort to intestines to keep them flexible and nutrition of some sort to keep them healthy…!
