Sivananda Buried Yoga

What an amazing contemporary book to read. In some ways it blows apart every pre-conception I had about yoga, the different styles, traditions, and practices. In other ways it now all makes perfect sense, pieces of the jig-saw all coming together in the one defining purpose. The author Yogi Manmoyanand takes the reader through his personal journey, first as a rebel irreverently questioning everything about postures and styles, the difference between "gymnastic asanas" and "spiritual Asana." Then, his guru leads him through various levels of 'initiations' and awareness, retreating to a cave for extended solitary practice and the levels of self-mastery, later followed by the difficulties of his re-integration back into community to fulfill his karmic requirement.Manmoyanand's gurus chosen date of entry into the final samadhi is especially poignant, and then how the continuance of 'the work' passes on from one to another. Here's the author and this is his work now http://www.yogavillage.org/index.html
