The Royal Path of Ashtanga Yoga – The philosophy, psychology & practice
The eight limbed path of Patanjali’s Raja Yoga Sutras. Rāja yoga aims at controlling all thought-waves or mental modifications. Arāja yogi starts his sādhanā with the mind as well as with a certain minimum of āsanas and prānāyāmas, usually included as a preparation for meditation and concentration.
In this seminar, Swami Bodhichitananda takes you through the eight steps of Raja Yoga for gradually withdrawing the mind from worldly entanglements to pure Self-awareness and absorption. You will learn the yoga philosophy and psychology of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, as well as many concentration and meditation techniques, and obtain a more clear understanding of Raja Yoga and a daily practice of meditation. Main texts will be Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Kashmiri text Vijnana Bhairava, and Swami Sivananda’s Mind: It’s Mysteries and Control.
“Every thought, feeling, perception, or memory you may have causes a modification, or ripple, in the mind. It distorts and colors the mental mirror. If you can restrain the mind from forming into modifications, there will be no distortion, and you will experience your true Self.” - Swami Satchidananda
