According to Adi Sankara 'Guru' occupies an incomparable place in the world. “Shishyaad Icched Parajayam,” he says. The greatness of the guru lies not in him or her being a guiding light to many disciples, but the fact that they make another guru out of a disciple just as a lamp that lights another lamp. In the process, the Guru wishes and prays for defeat before the disciple.
