When I do the inclined plane purvotthasana I get cramps in the calves of my legs which persist for awhile. What causes this? One of our Facebook friends asked this question and received the following replies. Do you have anything to add to this? Shoumava: Reduce the time you do, say for example start from a minimum of 15 secs per leg. Slow and stedily increase the time do not over exert. When you have cramps relax in Shavasana and massage your legs with oil or bare hands this would help in loosening the muscles. Cramps are normal nothing to worry just take rest, stretch the legs and as I said above reduce your time Brad: It is simply the positioning of the feet and ankle. Cramps are not normal. When a muscle is short and then is contracted it cramps. Saraswati: Not being used to doing that posture. It will improve with time and practice. Do not stay in the posture too long. Anusha: Keep practising. It happened to me too. It happens when we are stretching a muscle which has not been used before. Claire: Compression in the lumbar spine ? Shoumava: also cramps may be due to dehydration or vitamin deficiency..u can consult a doctor if it persits for vitamin tablets or can take Gluscose water
