Falling asleep after pranayama

When I do pranayama, I do kapalabhati and then anuloma viloma several rounds. Many times afterwards I fall asleep. What causes this? Is this normal?

One of our facebook friends asked this question and received the following replies - what would you tell this person?

Kadambari: Yes, it does happen occasionally with me also. Usually when I have been more stressed out mentally or physically. I suppose it's a normal reaction of the body, because the body heals itself when we are asleep.

Jelila: As prana moves in your body from your yoga practise, it can shift your emotional 'stuff' causing you to realise something. If you realise something (ie transform a negative subconscious belief) then you need to integrate what you learned, so you may need to sleep so that your subconscious mind can process the new information and set it in the context of your total belief system.

Natasha: depends upon your body structure and body clock . Everyone has a different structure and clock .

Amit: Pranayam prepares you for Meditation. In the beginning pranayam gives relaxation and one goes to sleep which is normal and beneficial. Later it propels you to do Meditation which is awakefulness and your normal sleep will also become dynamic sleep or pshychic sleep.

Swami Saradananda: OM - it is obviously relaxing you. So, it is probably best for you to not do pranayama before meditation - do it before you go to bed.

Amit: Relaxation cam also mean free from stress and thus pranayam prepares you for meditation.
