Mental agitation from doing yoga

I have been doing yoga about 6 months. Since I started I think my mind has grown less calm, I can't meditate at all and the thoughts come non-stop. What should I be doing differently?

One of our facebook friends asked this question and received the following replies - what would you tell this person?

Marci: you should let your teacher help you ,because you must learn to control your thoughts.

Micky: Had same problem until I was told to turn all my thoughts into positive ones. It really helped.

Julie: Focus more on the breath....feel the prana connect internally.... and have no expectations...just go with the flow...patience and perseverance:))

Fernando: I had the same, 4 months into serious practice and I had lots of energy, and my mind wouldn't stop, good and bad thoughts, working all day long, I felt like a maniac, I slept late and had energy all day long, it was as if I had unblocked a ...dam containing all my thoughts and energy, don't concentrate on that, don't be too eager, enjoy the process, breathe, be patient and devoted and you will feel the ease. Sometimes it is also that the way we are practising is way too energetic, slow down and allow yourself to be present, that was the advice my teacher gave me and worked wonders, she even said, let your practise be the place where you feel your mind slow down from the daily life rythm.

Natasha: BAsically its the mind resisting the change is lifestyle . the body resisting change . It loves these weeds that were being planted in your mind before . Now you are planting beautiful productive flowers and plants it cannot stomach this in... mind .
Just continue and . Be aware of these limiting thoughts and just put them out of mind . A few more days or a month more you will be fine .

Kireet: Practice Karma Yoga. Work hard in your vocation. Practice your hobbies. Reach out to people and socialise. In short fill up your life with action. Leave the lonely comfort of the self and be EXPRESSIVE. Express and Manifest yourself for you have burnt your Karma over the last 6 months. Now is your time to do all those things you always wanted to do. So arise, awake and conquer the world. Shine. Enjoy everything about life, the smal things and the big.

Shailendra: Thoughts come non-stop? Does the one coming first make way for the next thought? Yes, it does. Thought not only keep coming but they also keep going!
Be the river in which thoghts appear and disappear like bubbles. Watch the thoughts imparti...ally.
Jai Gurudev.

Archana: check if the things ur doing r correct?may be breathing sequence is wrong in it?
unless u cant concentrate on what u r doing it is not of much help full 2u.and once u start concentrating on what u r doing ,there wont be other thoughts .
alway...s take deep breath let ur breathing come to very slow motion .when u start any kind of yoga

Mamta: Check your diet . Have Satvic Ahar.
