Does anyone believe that practicing bhastrika lying down may be more beneficial?
One of our Facebook friends asked this question and received the following replies. Do you have anything to add to this?

Sasha: love Bhastrika, use it all the time

Chetankumar: Da ideal poses for bhastrika are Sidhasan ,Kamlasan.
NEVER do it by standing. :(
if U r interested in doing breathing exercises while laying down plz choose others. Thanks.

Kapil: by lying down you will not get the perfect succession of breath; so it will not be beneficial, do it on padmasana, siddhasana or sukhasana it will give you most benefits.

Swami Saradananda: OM - never lying down - best done sitting in padmasana, siddhasana or sukhasana.

Sita Chaitanya: From a practical standpoint Ian I don't know how you could do bhastrika lying down. The breathing is so much more intense than other pranayamas, I don't know how you would be able to do that effectively unless you are sitting up. Other more... gentle pranayamas like anuloma viloma could be done laying down, as the spine is straight, although the arm might get tired. It's possible you could even do some kapalabhati lying down, although this again I think would be less effective than sitting up. Have you done this? Where did you hear about this?

Sahsa: I have practiced short bhastrika on my back, in viparita karani baddha konasana... to no ill effects

Archana: as this or any pranayama needs" mulabandh" this should be done only in sittiing position !any of padmasana sukhasana
