Recognize The Power of Ashtanga yoga!

While most of the Yoga practices are ideal for enhancing the body’s flexibility and rejuvenating mind and soul, but they do not increase physical endurance, strength and muscle training. Ashtanga yoga, however, ensures physical stamina, strength and obtaining peaceful mind apart from building a strong and a firm body.

In fact, this yoga practice is effective at weight management, core body building strength and endurance, which is ignored in other forms of yoga. This yoga practice is ideal for strengthening and toning body. In simple words, it is a complete fitness program as it enhances your body’s endurance, strength, and flexibility as well as calming the mind and rejuvenating your body and soul.

Ashtanga yoga: powerful form of yoga

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, is a powerful form of yoga that focuses on strength and stamina, which
was first popularized by K. Pattabhi Jois and promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga. Ashtanga word literally means “eight-limbed” and Ashtanga yoga means “eight-limbed yoga”, which is named after the eight limbs of yoga mentioned in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Eight-limbed yoga involves a series of movements that involves multiple techniques, including, concentration, postures, breathing, and meditation exercises. You could simply call it the yoga of techniques. What sets it apart from other forms of yoga in its dynamic and static forms. You must go deeper into the different of the yoga forms.

And for that, you need to understand the first step before moving to the next one. Since it is not a set of poses that must be performed but an exercise program of performing the asanas in order to gain complete balance. Certain steps that are mentioned below:

control (yama).
rules (niyama).
poses (asanas).
breathing (pranayama).
withdrawing sensory perceptions (pratyahara).
concentration (dharana).
meditation (dhyana).
and equilibrium (samadhi).

Postures of Ashtanga Yoga

According to K. Pattabhi Jois, ashtanga yoga (vinyasa) is performed for internal cleansing. In this form of yoga, there is a series of poses and each pose must be performed well before moving on the next pose. In fact, the critical aspect of ashtanga yoga follows the strict routine since each pose prepares the body for the next ashtanga yoga pose.

Ashtanga yoga starts with Surya Namaskar (sun salutation) and followed by six standing postures that serve as the basis for all other poses. After this, you need to follow four series of ashtanga yoga, which includes the primary series of yoga chikitsa, nadi shodana, the advanced A series or sthira bhaga, and the last one is the advanced B series.

NOTE: It is mandatory to practice ashtanga yoga under the supervision of Ashtanga yoga guru or at Ashtanga yoga teacher training center

      i have learned yoga from apoorvayoga. I found them to be really good. having said that i even came across Turiya Yoga, who operate from Goa and they are really good at hatha yoga training.

    It is really a nice post!! I was looking for some good information on Ashtanga yoga. this post really helped me understanding this yoga form. I was only aware about the series of movements that involves multiple techniques such as breathing, concentration, postures and meditation, but was not opened to its benefits.
