  • Yoga Vidya is a non-profit organization based in Germany.
    It was founded by Sukadev Bretz in 1992. Sukadev is a disciple of Swami Vishnu-devananda (1927-1993) who was a disciple of Swami Sivananda (1887-1963).
    Yoga Vidya is teaching Yoga in all its aspects:
    - Hatha Yoga: Asanas, Pranayama, Relaxation, Diet, Kriyas, Bandhas etc.
    - Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Energy
    - Jnana Yoga, the Yoga of Knowledge, based on Vedanta
    - Bhakti Yog, the Yoga of Devotion
    - Karma Yoga, the Yoga of Action and Selfless Service
    - Raja Yoga, the psychological Yoga of Self Control

    The Hatha Yoga System is based upon the Classical Hatha Yoga as taught by Swami Sivananda and Swami Vishnu-devananda. This is also based on the Scriptures Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gherandha Samhita, Goraksha Sataka and Shiva Samhita.

    The Hatha Yoga taught at Yoga Vidya is based on the Sivananda Yoga Series, also called Rishikesh Series or Yoga Vidya Basic Class:
    - Beginning Relaxation
    - Pranayama
    - Surya Namaskar
    - 12 Basic Asanas and their variations: Headstand, Shoulderstand, Plough, Fish, Forward Bend, Kobra, Locust, Bow, Spinal Twist, Peacock, Standing Forward Bend, Triangle
    - Deep Relaxation
    - Meditation

    Yoga Vidya adapts those teachings to the needs of different practicioners and purposes.
    All Asanas can have gentle and more advanced variations. They can be adapted to the needs of sick people and of those who want to develop spiritually.

    Yoga Vidya runs 3 Ashrams in Germany, 70 Yoga Centers in Central Europe and has trained 7000 Yoga Teachers so far.

    Yoga Vidya is in the tradition of Swami Sivananda who wanted to spread Yoga beyond borders and free of charge. That's why Yoga Vidya is running this Facebook page to spread the Knowledge of Yoga
