This question was asked on our facebook page and received several answers - do you have any other advice?:
namaste.....
Hi, i've been practicing yoga for 9 months. So Im still beginner so far, but i have a huge passion for yoga and happy for being able to practice it...
Btw, would u please suggest any asana for hamstring problem or to strengthen it???
thanks for ur help....

Yuke: same problem with me, need the answer too :)

Liew: i started one year ago and have the same issues i grew to love yoga but the harder i try the progress was elusive............the day i just let go & just enjoy doing what i am suppose to, not trying too hard my hamstrings too got flexible.......maybe just maybe.........have fun and yet the ligths's there..........namaste

Yasmine: Same issue i faced as well...then got to know that the thighs need to be stronger, simple as that...continue doing side sit up or lunges to make them stronger n inspite of pain I still go on...:D

Ramesh: jogging is the answer for hamstrings flexibility
for weak just walking

Chetankumar: Wen a hamstring problem prob ,occurs ,Pawanmuktasana is da the First Aid.
Virabhadrasana can strengthen thighs wen they are ok and not on medications.Vaatayanasana is again a prevention ,but not wen u r sufferring with immense pain ,as it ta...rgets the thigh muscles and complete Vaat doshas.

Ramesh: cycling

Alok: for hamstrings thr r lot of poses which u cn do like : head to knee pose, half moon pose, janu sirsasana, trikonasana, downward dog, wide legged forward bend all these poses r very gud for loosening and strenghtning of hamstrings

‎Dieni: @Liew & yasmin: im agree with u...have fun in yoga & i never put any pressure on myself to do any asana tht make my hamstring worse, but at the same i also try to strengthen it slowly...
@chetankumar: thanks for the asana tips yaar...i'll t...ry to practice them with my yoga gurus....

Natasha: dont overdo the yoga asanaas ... >> and try all in moderation .

Claire: Tell your yoga teacher the problem + I'm sure she/he will add the necessary asanas and warm-up's into the class..when your in the posture's make sure you take the breath into the area of tension.. Where the thought goes the breath flows..al...low the breath to work its magic... Downdog/adho mukha svanasana, janu sirsanana/head to knee, parsvottanasana/ intense side stretch, legs up the walk, reclining bigtoe or hands behind legs pose, seated forward bend, standing intense spread legs pose, warrior 3..have fun and smile in the pose's..

Dieni: thanks guys for tips...it helps a lot....sukriya...:)))))))))))))))

Suresh: pawanmuktasana part 1 as given in the book APMB by Swami SATYANANDA Saraswati.

Lalita: my god every body gave their experiences. but no body told about hamstring... For ham string just u have to do janushirasana, a simplest way to give stretch and strengthen that muscle. and for contraction do all the postures sitting in v...ajrasana pose.
---- lalita yoga teacher/therapist.

Shammi: For a strong hamstring, do the standing postures trikonasana, especially uthita prasavokanasana (one of the best recommended), three variations of virbhadrasana, try keep getting into Upvista Konasana (try this against the wall) and the variations of supta padaghusthasana....

Dieni: @Lalita and Shammi: thanks :))))))
