Raslila

I have always loved these paintings depicting Lord Krishna’s lilas. Perhaps, many of us think that Lord Krishna just had an exciting time singing and dancing with the Gopis. It looks like a great divine party. But, the implication is way deeper. During a lecture, I learnt that the Gopis stand for our thoughts. During the lecture, I learnt that we have 16 thousand thoughts a day. We may not be aware of all our thoughts. Next to each Gopi is Lord Krishna, who stands for the silence between each thought. So I conclude that God is behind all our thoughts and actions. He is the doer. To me it is like a Japa Mala. While doing Japa we substitute each thought with the recitation of a mantra. Our thoughts are not always pure, but mantras are very holy, pure and elevating. By doing japa or chanting, we can evolve spiritually and cultivate positive thoughts and perform good actions. During meditation, we experience God in the silence between our thoughts. They say that in meditation, the mind moves from thought to thought and at some point we experience a space filled with thoughtlessness. That is the silence of divine grace. When we experience it, we gain strength, feel refreshed and happy, because we touch upon our core nature, which is divine.
