In the beginning the mind is disciplined by fixing it on a concrete object or symbol. When it is rendered steady and stable, it can then be fixed on an abstract idea such as, "I am Brahman."
Meditate always on the following formulae: "I am pure Consciousness. I am Satchidananda Brahman. I am the immutable, self-effulgent, immortal Self. I am the silent witness of the three states of waking, dream and deep sleep."
