THE BASIS OF DIVINE LIFE

Self-control is indispensable for living a truly ethical life. Without self-restraint, the practice of ethics is impossible. You may have noble intentions and sublime sentiments, but when you have no self-control you become a slave of the baser passions.
Self-control leads to the highest merit. It is the eternal duty of man to practice this virtue in his daily life. It surpasses in merit charity, sacrifice and study of the Vedas. A man of self-control enjoys esteem in this world and reward in the next.
