Sivananda Yoga of Shri Swami Vishnu Devanandaji
More about me:
i bought a used paperback for 10 cents in 1981, written by one of Shri Swami Sivanandaji's students. Right away I started everything - asana, meditation, silence, fasting. I did this for many years on my own. Around 1990 I started taking classes at an Iyengar studio in Maryland. I took classes there for 2 1/2 years of Asana only. Then I had a stroke at aged 47 because of some congenital health complications. I could not remember anything or talk or hear very easily. I was very distraught. One day I fell asleep and dreamt that I was swimming in some very beautiful ocean water, under the water with the sun penetrating everywhere. It was incredibly peaceful and beautiful. When I woke up, on the floor there was an upside down Yoga Journal Magazine with the picture of the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas. I went there at Thanksgiving in 1991 to heal my body and spirit and did TTC there in 1995.
My Favorite Quote/What inspires me:
"Yoga is not the waving of the arms and the legs." Swami Sivananda
"Do not confuse lumbago for the rising of the Kundalini."- Swami Sivananda
I was staff briefly in India in 1996. I met a lot of people from Uruguay and Argentina on the Yatra there - where you one of them? I note from the comment below that you knew Swami Shanmugananda. He was one of the main teachers on TTC and then I worked with him in the Bahamas and Canada - very inspiring and a great leader.
Where are you based now?
