Mudras (continued)

Mudras are hand positions that seal the psychic energies into specific channels. They are powerful spiritual tools that can enable you to receive and transmit energy more efficiently. Mudras aid you in the purification of your physical, mental and psychic bodies. Perhaps the best known mudra is “Namaskar” , which symbolises "I salute the divinity within you".

In Indian philosophy, your body is viewed as being made up of five elements, with each of your five fingers representing one element:

Tools for Meditation: mudras

Your body is a subtle and powerful antenna that is continually receiving energy and also transmitting it. Mantra, mudra and mandala are three types of powerful spiritual tools that assist you in purifying your physical, mental and psychic bodies.

With regular practice, these methods sharpen and expand your spiritual wisdom. They help you to restore balance within the microcosm and bring it into harmony with the macrocosm. They support your meditation practice and aid you in finding inner peace.

The Door Of The Law (part 3)

("Ganjoji in Izushi" by 663highland)

"The Door Of The Law" is a suite in six parts inspired by "A Parable About A Parable" from RAWilson's "Quantum Psychology," itself inspired by Kafka's "Before The Law." (There is also a video version by jackhalfaprayer.)

The 3rd part is entitled "Parable" and presents a reading of the story by which Simon, the Zen student, is bewildered.

Once was a man who had made it
Up all the way to the Door of the Law
No obstacle had made him quit
No one burden had caused him

Essence of Guru

The Essence of Guru

The concept of Guru is highly misunderstood in the West & some what in East too, mostly as people in the west want a simplistic definition for everything. But yoga comes from a Sanskrit speaking culture that works with conceptual thinking, the word guru is a concept that must be understood, not a word to be defined. Take a minute to let go of previous definitions and open to the full potential of the guru.

Often people translate guru as the remover of darkness; this is a metaph

This book was printed in Hong Kong in 1957. I think he went to Hong Kong first upon leaving Rishikesh. Master Sivananda gave Him ten Rupees and said, " Everything you need is in these rupees..." The rest is history! Lost of photos, Swamiji tells how many to do of each posters and the benefits. It's pretty wild, a very good book. Swamiji told us in the 1980's he did Asana's & Pranayama whenever he was angry or mad about something. He did leave the Ashram two times, once for a weekend and someone

The Highest Post in the World

Those who know do not tell, those who tell do not know. Not to set the tongue loose but to curb it, not to have edges that catch but to remain untangled, unblinded, unconfused, is to find balance, and he who holds balance beyond sway of love or hate, beyond reach of profit or loss, beyond care of praise or blame, has attained the highest post in the world. ~Lao Tzu - The Way of Life #56.

Freedom from Attachment

Freedom from all desire is eternity. All attachment implies fear, for all things are transient. And fear makes one a slave. This freedom from attachment does not come with practice; it is natural, when one knows one's true being. Love does not cling; clinging is not love." Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj from "I Am That"

OM - I've just found some notes that I made seveal years ago, listening to a talk by Swami Chidanandaji - which made me think of the benefits of ashram life:

The purpose of an Ashram is not to stimulate you or to provide enjoyment for your senses - although you may enjoy the scenery and the people you meet. An ashram is a place to spend time and return home feeling refreshed. It was established to offer an oasis of peace to real spiritual aspirants who have realised that there is really somethin

Whatever he (the Yogic practioner) see with his eyes, let him consider as Atman. Whatever he hears with his ears, let him consider as Atman. Midsummer Weekend

OM

Loving greetings on thisauspicious Midsummer weekend

I’ve just returned from a few daysin Dorset at the Midsummer Festival that was organised by the Independent Network.

I’d like to say a special “thanks” toBhavani, who drove me down and back. I always enjoy the drive to Dorset. Soon after leaving London, you come to the awe-inspiring Salisbury Plains. One can imagine why it was a holy place in ancient times. The view and feeling of spaciousness is still exciting today, especially when you come

("Upward" - detail from an old kindergarten painting)

The Idler was born of a combination of concepts discovered while exploring various domains of knowledge during the second half of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s.

« The idler who does not arise when it is time to arise, who is full of sloth though young and strong, who is lazy and weak in thought and mind, does not find the path to insight. » – The Dhammapada

I was developing an interest in Buddhism, and from the works of Jung, in the c

Bhakti Yoga

"What is really required of us in this yoga is that our thirst after the beautiful should be directed to God. What is the beauty in the human face, in the sky, in the stars, and in the moon? It is only the partial manifestation of the real, all-embracing Divine Beauty. 'He shining, everything shines. It is through His light that all things shine.' " Swami Vivekananda

Love

“...fear is not love, dependence is not love, jealousy is not love, possessiveness and domination are not love, responsibility and duty are not love, self-pity is not love, the agony of not being loved is not love, love is not the opposite of love any more than humility is the opposite of vanity. So if you can eliminate all these, not by forcing them but by washing them away as the rain washes the dust of many days from a leaf, then perhaps you will come upon this strange flower which man always

http://www.yogasanjivani.com/acupressure.html

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese healing method that involves applying pressure to certain meridian points on the body to relieve pain. These meridians start at the fingertips, connect to the brain, and then connect to the organ associated with the specific meridian.
